what is indian quilting? [part three]

Another version of using a modified "standard" pattern is this Log Cabin pattern, which instead of having a solid red ("hearth") square at the center shows an eagle. Eagles, wolves and buffalo are common design elements of Indian quilting.
Rather than using fabric by the yard, sometimes other things are used: there are many bandannas available, for example, with Indian motifs. As these particular bandannas have a Southwestern/Mexican flavor, I call this piece Las Bandanas.
Another motif is to use embrodered squares to make a quilt. Indian embroidery motifs are not common in preprinted embroidery, and so often the quilter finds herself drawing and embroidering designs of her own making for her quilts.
